Environmental Policy

Creature & Co. Environmental Policy

Our Commitment

At Creature & Co., we believe that great content should never come at the expense of the planet. As a Certified B Corporation, we are committed to using our business as a force for good, creating inspiring work while actively reducing our environmental footprint and supporting the global transition to a low-carbon, sustainable future.

We recognise that our operations, supply chain, and the content we produce have an impact on the environment. We are committed to continually improving our practices, aligning our business with science-based targets, and working with our suppliers toward a Net Zero by 2050 future.

Our Environmental Goals

We commit to:

  • Measuring and managing our emissions – We measure our Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions annually and publish our progress.
  • Achieving a near term emissions reduction target by 2030 – we aim to reduce scope 1&2 emissions 42% by 2030.
  • Reaching Net Zero by 2050 – We have a goal and a clear roadmap aligned with Science Based Targets.
  • Reducing resource use and waste – Following our Environmentally Preferable Purchasing and Waste Disposal policies to avoid unnecessary consumption, extend product life cycles, and promote reuse and recycling.
  • Supporting circular and regenerative systems – Choosing suppliers and partners that share our values, with preference for working with other B Corps, Living Wage employers, and businesses committed to environmental and social justice.
  • Minimising pollution and protecting biodiversity – Avoiding toxic materials and promoting environmentally responsible production.
  • Educating and engaging our team – We have a cross-departmental team of ‘B Advocates’ who are leading the work towards meeting the new B Corp standards. We empower staff to make responsible choices through training and regular updates on our environmental impact and social and environmental responsibilities are embedded into all job descriptions and annual reviews.

How We Achieve This

We integrate environmental responsibility into everything we do:

  1. Responsible Procurement – Applying our Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Policy to every buying decision we make in the office and following our Sustainable Procurement Policy within the supply chain.
Supplier Engagement – In 2025 we will begin mapping suppliers to establish who has returned the supplier survey, signed and code of conduct and is supplying emissions data. In accordance with our Climate Transition Plan we require all suppliers to share emissions data by 2027.
  1. Waste Prevention & Recycling – Applying our Environmentally Preferable Waste Policy to reduce waste generation and improve recycling rates.
  1. Sustainable Production – Selecting printing, distribution, and event partners with strong environmental credentials; choosing digital-first solutions where appropriate.
  1. Low-Carbon Operations – Reducing travel emissions through employee incentives such as the cycle to work scheme, our business travel policy encouraging remote collaboration, and encouraging our office provider and suppliers to use renewable energy wherever possible.
  1. Responsible Storytelling – Using our content platforms to inspire climate action, behaviour change, share best practices and support environmental causes. We track our effectiveness on an annual basis in alignment with our mission to reach 120 million people by 2030 with our content.
  1. Considering our Digital Impact – both our websites are hosted using renewable energy and we take care to reduce file sizes. Our National Geographic Kids UK website has been certified as ‘Carbon-Conscious’ by the Eco-Friendly Web Alliance with a quarterly carbon audit.

Governance and Accountability

  • The Sustainability Lead is responsible for monitoring environmental performance and progress toward targets.
  • We review this policy annually and update it to reflect new practices, data, and technologies.
  • We publish an annual Impact Report that includes our environmental performance, carbon footprint, and progress toward Net Zero.
  • We welcome feedback and collaboration opportunities.

Our Vision

We envision a future where creativity and environmental responsibility go hand-in-hand. Through transparent action, and collaboration with our community, Creature & Co. will continue to use its platform to protect the planet and inspire positive change.
