National Geographic Kids Magazine
20 years of engaging eco-conscious families through Nat Geo Kids magazine
Before Creature & Co. became the full-service creative agency we are today, we started as a passionate publishing team on a mission to help kids fall in love with the planet.
In 2006, we saw a gap in the market for content that made nature exciting, accessible and genuinely fun. That opportunity came in the form of National Geographic Kids – a brand with a powerful legacy and lots of untapped potential.
Nineteen years later, the magazine is still one of the UK’s best-selling kids’ titles. It also laid the foundation for Creature & Co. to launch as a creative agency in 2017, bringing the same family-first ethos into the print, digital and social work we now do for other brands.
Inspiring a generation to protect our changing planet
Let’s face it – kids today are growing up in a very different world. Climate change, habitat loss and biodiversity decline aren’t distant threats – they’re already here. But we believe serious topics don’t need to feel too heavy.
From day one, our mission has been to create content that sparks curiosity, empathy and action – without losing the fun. Each issue of National Geographic Kids takes big topics like deforestation or endangered species and turns them into something exciting, empowering and age appropriate.
Think “Weird but True” animal facts, jungle puzzles, behind-the-scenes science adventures and so much more. We’ve featured everything from young inventors to real-life zombie animals – all designed to make caring for the planet feel cool, not preachy.
The goal? To help kids fall in love with the natural world – and show them they can make a difference.
Our multi-platform strategy
It’s not just about magazines anymore. Today’s kids are digital natives, so we meet them (and their families) across multiple touchpoints – print, digital, social and live events.
Print Magazines
We publish two editions every month: one for the UK & Ireland, and one for Australia & New Zealand. Each issue is packed with animal facts, science features, puzzles, competitions and plenty of “wow!” moments.
We regularly collaborate with partners – from cultural institutions like the Tate Modern to animal charities like the PDSA – to co-create content that entertains, educates and empowers.
And guess what? The UK edition is printed entirely on recycled paper and is 100% plastic-free, including all covermounts and packaging. Cough cough… Humble brag.
Dynamic Digital Content (Website & Newsletters)
The Nat Geo Kids website attracts over 10 million users each year, hosting everything from games and quizzes to kid-friendly explainers on global issues.
We’ve also produced 300+ curriculum-linked teaching resources for educators, helping bring science, geography and sustainability into the classroom.
Plus, we produce digital advertorial features and newsletters in partnership with kids and family brands – from game companies like SEGA and Asmodee to publishers like HarperCollins and Bloomsbury.
Engaging Social Media
Across Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, we reach over 150,000 followers with a mix of organic and paid content that reflects the fun, educational spirit of the magazine.
The strategy focuses on engaging content, brand alignment and identifying influencers and partners to drive website traffic.
Interactive Online Events (Webinars)
Creature & Co. develops and hosts interactive events like “Meet the Bug Explorer!” – featuring Nat Geo Explorers and editors – designed for nature-loving kids aged 7–12. These events dive into topics like rainforest life and insect exploration, with subscribers from 2025 onwards gaining free access.
These webinars now have thousands of subscribers tuning in from across the globe – and we’re just getting started.

The impact
Today, National Geographic Kids remains one of the UK’s most trusted and loved children’s brands. But more than that, it’s helped shape a generation of young readers into curious, confident and eco-conscious individuals.
And for us at Creature & Co., it’s the foundation that shaped everything we are today. It taught us how to build meaningful content for families, how to work across multiple formats and how to make “learning” feel like play.
Because if we want to protect our planet for the future, it starts with helping kids fall in love with it – one page, post, puzzle or, um, poo fact at a time.
Hear from our readers
Our mission to entertain, educate and empower young minds is brought to life through the incredible feedback from our dedicated readers, their families and educators.
