Making sustainability less abstract with a fun card game, Go for Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an ambitious roadmap for a better, fairer future. But let’s be honest – they’re not exactly dinner table conversation.

As a kids-and-family-focused creative agency, we pride ourselves on making big, challenging topics playful and engaging. So, we set ourselves a mission: make the SDGs tangible, understandable and genuinely fun.

*Drumroll please*… Introducing Go for Goals – a fast-paced, family-friendly card game for 2–6 players, aged 8+. Think Monopoly Deal… if it was about saving the world instead of bankrupting your nan.

Turning 17 big goals into one fun game

We started with a question… how do you get kids (and grown-ups) excited about global sustainability targets?

Our answer: gamify them.

We created a hand management card game – meaning players are rewarded for collecting and playing combinations of SDG cards to tackle major world problems. Players race to build positive solutions, while navigating surprise Event cards that can either derail their progress or give them a lucky boost.

The gameplay mechanics were inspired by popular titles like Ticket to Ride, Pandemic and Cards Against Humanity – but with a hopeful twist. Every round of Go for Goals shows how collective action can drive change and how every SDG plays a part in building a better world.

We wrote it, illustrated it, tested it, tweaked it, and made sure it was:

  • Fun first, educational second (we love educational things that don’t feel like you’re learning)
  • Suitable for any age or eco-knowledge level
  • Packed with positive, practical language around change and progress

Most of all, we wanted it to sit proudly alongside other board games in your cupboard.

A different kind of impact

From our first playtest sessions, Go for Goals proved itself as both fun and educational – sparking competitive laughter and deep conversations in equal measure.

Unlike similar games, this wasn’t built just for classrooms or boardrooms. It was built for families, youth groups, eco-newbies and climate veterans alike – anyone who wants to better understand how world issues are connected, and how they can play a part in solving them.

It’s already opened up exciting conversations with organisations, sustainability leaders and businesses across sectors.

Want a copy of Go for Goals?

We originally created Go for Goals as a bit of an experiment – a way to test whether we could turn something as complex (and, let’s be honest, as overwhelming) as the UN Sustainable Development Goals into a genuinely fun, family-friendly game.

We printed a few hundred copies and sent them to people and organisations who inspire us. But then… word got out.

After being featured in a few online publications, our inbox lit up. Families wanted a copy for game night. Teachers wanted sets for the classroom. Universities, businesses and brands got in touch, asking for packs to share with their teams.

While we’d love to send a deck to everyone, we’re a small (but mighty) team – so we’re working on the next best thing.

Hear from climate experts

Of course we think the game’s a winner. But what about the people out there tackling these global challenges every day? We asked a couple of experts what they thought – and here’s what they had to say:
